About Camp It
We are two guys (Julian & Clinton) that are working to bring something different to our community in the way of camping events throughout northern NSW and southern QLD.
So we created Camp It to be something a little bit different to your usual party. A fun friendly environment where you can just be yourself with no judgment from anyone. With a mixture of fun group activities, shows, community groups and some of Australia’s best DJ’s playing nightly to keep you dancing under the stars till the sun comes up.
Camp It is a gay men's only camping weekend event over 3-5 days around Southern Queensland and Northern NSW.
With our aim to to make Camp It a place to go for the weekend camping, unwind, relax and have some fun. Meet other guys from our community that you would not normally have the chance to meet and make some new mates along the way. Whether you're a seasoned camper or if this is your very first time, you’ll definitely have a fun time.
Delicious dinners are included each night with your ticket and we have community group fundraising breakfasts and lunches daily - you’ll definitely be well fed.
With our focus on the community, we also wanted to give something back to the community at the same time. We have daily BBQ fundraisers hosted by different community groups. Camp It supplies and pays for all food and equipment so all money raised goes directly to the community group - deserving groups that need the support and assistance of the community they too help.
We hope by bringing these groups to Camp It we hope to give them a generous fund injection as well as introduce them to a new people.
We invite community groups along to share important information and raise valuable funds for them. So far we've raised over $4,500 for community groups. We also have fun activities, music and games through the weekend to keep our campers entertained.

What’s the idea behind Camp It and who are the people behind it?
First and foremost of all we wanted to create a safe place for gay people to get together and have a silly fun weekend of camping. We also want to get the participation of other community based groups at the events to bring them into the spotlight. Wanting to also give something back, we have fundraising BBQs at the event to raise money to help these groups - Quac and Boot Co are the first two groups as well as the 3rd which is the camper’s choice.
Clinton and Julian we are the two behind Camp It. Julian works in computer programing, database management and website development, as well as a bit of graphic design which you will see in all our posters and website. Clinton owns his own business doing fish tank installation and maintenance; established 6 years ago we are constantly on our feet.
Are you a regular camper yourself?
Yes we are regular campers and part of a few 4x4 and camping groups. Owning a 4x4 we got the camping bug and have not looked back. We have a camper trailer and love being able to hook it up to the 4x4 and head off for the weekend.
Can you reveal the location?
The Annual 2015 will be held at Lake Wivenhoe, Queensland. About 1 hours drive from Brisbane, 1.5 hours from the Gold Coast.
Is it BYO everything? If not, what do you provide?
Yes Camp It is a BYO camping equipment event - hot catered dinners are included in your ticket, bbq breakfast and lunch are available also. You’ll need to bring your own tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, cups, plates, cutlery, and bug spray + sunscreen.
What about food and drink? Do you BYO or can it be bought there?
Nightly hot meals are catered and dinner is available from 6pm this is included in your ticket. BBQ lunch and breakfast is available - this is our fundraiser for community groups and all funds go directly to the community groups. BYO drinks and snacks.
If someone is a first-time camper, will you be able to help them adjust?
Sure we are happy to! I know there will be others there also willing to help out. For a first time camper we also offer a camping pack available for purchase ahead of the weekend - basics to be able to camp for the weekend – tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, cutlery and plates, and a torch.
What sort of entertainment will you have? Is there a dance party?
We will have the DJs playing of a evening. DJ KITTY GLITTER (International) is joining us, DJ Les Smith and DJ Fradge from Brisbane as well. We are not a bush dance party – its more a relaxed sound get up and have a dance or hang out at the camp fire with your mates. We also have daily activities as well through out the weekend including the super fun Camp It games.
This is the third Camp It, have many guys responded so far? How many are you expecting?
So far a fantastic response with first and second release tickets sold out we are down to our last 50 tickets. We are expecting to sell out again with about 200 guys. Our first event was totally sold out and had rave reviews.
You say that camping will ‘broaden your horizons’, what do you mean?
Growing up as a kid going camping was second nature to us but also know a lot of people have never experienced camping. I know that the experiences that I had camping with family and friends have taught me life skills that I use every day, and some of the places I’ve seen are absolutely breath-taking.
What is Camp It?
Camp It will be a camping weekend (3-5 days) with regular events around Southern Queensland.
A place to go for the weekend to relax, unwind, have some fun camping, to meet guys from our community that you would not normally have the chance to meet and make some new mates along the way. With the involvement of other community groups and organisations we hope that Camp It can generously give back in the way of donations.
Our aim is to create a fun friendly environment where you can just be yourself. With a mixture of fun group activities, new places to explore, shows and some great music from some of the best DJs this is going to be a weekend you won’t want to miss.
We’ve also secured some great prizes to win over the weekend including Leah Andrea underwear, passes to Number 29, and more.
Why did we create Camp It?
We created Camp It to bring that something different back. We also wanted to give something back to the community at the same time. We will be making donations to local community groups. Groups that need the support and assistance of the community they help. With the inclusion of these groups at the events we hope to bring them into the spotlight a little more.
What community groups can be involved?
Any LGBTI focused group can be involved in Camp It. Our aim is to have as many community groups as possible involved so that people can be aware of the small groups in our community that some people just don’t know about.
